rec room creative lol love out loud
doing a little good in the world with the kids, through organized and random acts of kindness.
what is lol?
lol = love out loud (though we aim for loads of fun and laughing out loud too. :)
lol is rec room creative's way of contributing to our local communities and doing a little good in the world. it's embedded into our space and how we operate, it's in our dna. =)
we believe that helping littles grow and develop into empathetic and caring big people is super duper important, and that laying the foundation early on through experiences will encourage engaged and responsible citizenship.
we look forward to having fun and serving with you like minded parents! we truly hope you'll join us as we carry out organized and random acts of kindness with the kiddos here on the peninsula.
in additional to financial contributions, we support the following organizations in the following ways. come on by or send us a message to learn more and/or get involved. :)
non-profits & partners:
turnbull child development center
we volunteer at the Turnbull Community Festival every year. located in San Mateo, Turnbull Child Development Center enrolls 300 students in the district's Mandarin preschool, state-funded and Head Start programs. nearly 70% of the student population come from families that live below the poverty level. the festival has become an important day to build a deeper sense of community and to celebrate diversity and is a super fun volunteer opportunity for the whole family. littles can hand out snacks, administer glitter tattoos, face paint, and more! this year’s theme is the arts, so come to enjoy some amazing performances as well!
2019’s festival will be May 19th, 11am-2pm, so mark your calendars! the event usually requires 80-100 volunteers, so we’d love for you to join in on this awesome day of service…and fun!
please join us as we adopt the most in-need families over the holidays and fulfill their holiday wish lists. holidays are an amazing time for many, but a grim struggle for many others here in our community. this is an opportunity, as families, to practice being as generous to others as we are to ourselves.
thank you for adopting 19 families in 2018, several of whom are homeless. you made a transformational difference during their holidays, XO.
ongoing, please consider donating grown-up and children's books to the school's Free Little Library all year round! you can bring them to rec room creative or drop them off at the school office located at 715 Indian Ave in San Mateo.

toys for nicaragua (due to safety concerns in nicaragua, this effort is currently on pause)
we like to contribute locally, and while nicaragua isn't exactly in the bay area ;), the amazing woman who created this program is - our dear friend johana who's on staff at turnbull (see above).
she personally brings toys, laughter, love and hope to children and schools in the slums and remote villages of nicaragua,
we donate rec room kid party toys to her cause, and also donate 20% from the sales of those purchases. =)
hurricane harvey, the martinez family
hurricane harvey hit the martinez family very, very hard...but thanks to our friends Jamie, Muse Refined, Egg to Eggi, Future Glory, Beauty Counter, Rodan & Fields, Healthy Horizons, Delfina, Sixtos, Sole Desire, Books Inc and Five Little Monkeys, AND all the shoppers that came out to Shop for Good, we raised enough funds to help get the family back on their feet and to enable their eldest to play soccer this fall season =)
thanks to you, the family's entire Christmas wish-list was fulfilled in 2018! to pay it forward, the parents have begun volunteering and are grateful to all of you for helping to show their kids that there is good in the world =)
a new life will be joining this family in 2019, if you’d like to donate diapers or help host a virtual baby shower, please give us a holler
northern california fires, the wilson family
when a family that comes to play moves from san mateo to santa rosa then loses all their belongings to the flames and smoke just two weeks after moving into their new home...we rally as a community and love on them, because that's what friends are for.
thanks to all the donors that provided everything from housing, to furnishings, to diapers, to snacks, etc etc etc. the outpouring of love, kindness and compassion is just inspiring to us! a special shout-out to Jen, Jamie and the families at The Carey School for simply going above and beyond!
10/2018 update: the family is now back in santa rosa and is thriving =)
